LOOKING TO FRANCHISE YOUR BUSINESS IN THE UK ?
If you have a proven business and want to grow without funding every new location yourself, franchising can be a powerful route. But it only works when the model makes commercial sense for both you and your future franchisees.
Kindling helps founders assess franchise readiness, shape a distinctive franchise proposition, build the right documents & support systems, and crucially to recruit the right first franchisees.
No hype. No off-the-shelf template. Just honest, experienced guidance on whether franchising is right for your business and how to do it properly.
WHY FRANCHISE
YOUR BUSINESS?
Franchising lets you scale by partnering with driven, independent business owners who invest in your brand. But doing so successfully isn’t just about having the right documentation, it’s primarily about strategy, positioning, and recruitment. That’s why we believe the real focus is to first define your “Why” to ensure you stand out in a crowded marketplace.
We hate lazy franchising where everyone says the same thing, in the same way. It doesn't inspire people and will just leave you with a franchise brand that appeals to no-one. You deserve better from your consultants.
we will help you:
To understand "how to franchise my business"
Assess viability for you and your franchisees
Be distinctive as a franchisor and not follow the crowd
Refine your business into a scalable franchise model
Avoid common startup mistakes
Create a compelling brand voice and marketing that attracts ideal franchisees
Manage franchise enquiries on your behalf via our in house sales team
Build a franchise system that delivers real value—for you and your network
setting up your business to be ready to Franchise is a process. Bringing onboard your first Franchisees is an artform.
IS YOUR BUSINESS READY TO FRANCHISE?
The best franchise launches start with honesty, not paperwork.
Before you worry about manuals, marketing or recruitment, you need clarity on five questions:
Is your business already proven?
You need a concept that works consistently, not just a good idea.
Can somebody else learn to deliver it well?
A franchise has to be teachable, repeatable, and supportable.
Is there demand beyond your current location?
You need enough market opportunity for future franchisees to build viable businesses.
Do the numbers work for both sides?
The model must be commercially strong for the franchisor and the franchisee.
Is your brand strong enough to win?
Your future franchisees are comparing you against competitor brands and the option of going it alone.
This is where Kindling starts: with commercial reality, not wishful thinking.
WHY BUSINESS OWNERS CHOOSE KINDLING
You are not hiring a template factory. You are working with a team led by Andrew Walters, with close to 20 years of franchise experience across the UK and international markets.
Kindling combines strategic franchise development, brand positioning, recruitment thinking and hands-on commercial judgement. That matters because franchising is not just a legal exercise. It is a growth strategy, a sales proposition and an operational transfer problem all at once.
If franchising is not the right route for your business, we will tell you. If it is, we will help you build something commercially sound, distinctive and sustainable.
“commercial but importantly fair and balanced… sees the long-term bigger picture.”
“hands-on franchise expansion experience, which a number of others claim but don’t genuinely have.”

WHAT STAGE ARE YOU AT?
I'm exploring whether franchising is right for my business
You may have a promising concept, strong local traction, and a sense that franchising could be the next step.
Our role is to give you an honest view of whether that potential is real, what would need to change before launch, and whether franchising is the right route at all.
I have a proven business and want to launch a franchise
You already have a business that is trading well and you want to scale.
We help turn that operating business into a franchise model with clear economics, a teachable system, a differentiated proposition and a launch plan that gives your first franchisees the best possible chance of success.
I have the documents, but I'm not converting the right leads
If you already have the agreement, website and documents but enquiries are not converting, the problem is rarely “more exposure” on its own.
It is usually positioning, candidate fit, process, or sales journey. We help you fix the recruitment engine, not just feed it more leads.
THE KINDLING WAY
we are proudly different in the way that we work.
Your business is unique - so why would you settle for a copy and paste franchise model that doesn’t truly reflect your story and your vision for the future?

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO FRANCHISE A BUSINESS?
This is one of the first questions most founders ask, and rightly so.
The honest answer is that the cost depends on the complexity of your business, the strength of your existing systems, the legal and operational work required, and how quickly you want to launch.
Proper franchise development is not just about legal documentation. It usually includes strategy, financial modelling, operations manuals, training, recruitment infrastructure, and launch support.
If you are still assessing whether franchising makes sense, our Franchise Assessment Package is the best place to start.
It gives you clarity on viability, what would need to be built, and the most sensible next steps. If you go on to work with us on a wider programme, that cost is then deducted from your fee.
what we assess first
Franchise readiness
Commercial viability
Brand strength and differentiation
Franchisee profile and recruitment challenge
Operational transferability

WHAT FRANCHISE DOCUMENTATION DO I NEED?
There is a variety of documents that you'll need as part of your journey. We can help you to produce the ones that you need in a format that is proven to work.

Frequently asked questions about franchising your business
Can I franchise my business if I only have one location?
Absolutely if your business is otherwise in a good shape to be franchised. What is key is that the model is already proven, teachable and commercially viable . The right question is not “Can it be franchised?” but “Should it be franchised yet?” The answer will be driven by demand from prospective franchisees - if people are willing to sign up, then the number of locations you have is almost irrelevant.
How long does it take to franchise a business?
It depends on how much of the groundwork already exists inside your business, and can range from a few months to a year or more. Strong systems, clean numbers and a clear proposition speed things up. Weak foundations slow everything down. We will help you to assess this before you commit to the model, and crucially our support is there for the whole project and not time limited.
How long do I need to have been trading to franchise?
The honest answer is, it's as long as needed for you to be able to convince prospective franchisees that the franchise model is something they want to be part of. They will want reassurance around financial, so a minimum of a year of trading is advised and a minimum as per the BFA standards.
What if I am really early in my business but am keen to franchise - should I just wait?
On the contrary, you are best served by planning your franchise model strategically if it is an approach you intend to follow - even if you are very new to your business. By putting in place the right systems, processes and understanding what a great franchise looks like you can build it from the outset and avoid costly mistakes that we often see from more mature businesses.
What documents do I need to franchise my business?
Usually the core requirements include legal agreements, operations documentation, financial modelling, franchisee-facing sales materials and a recruitment process that attracts the right people.
How do I find my first franchisees?
Not by simply listing your brand and waiting, or by hoping someone else will do it all for you. Franchisees want to talk to, and buy from the business owners, so it's vital your process includes this. Avoid any promises around "we will do it for you".
Early franchise recruitment works best when your positioning, candidate profile, messaging, process and founder involvement all line up. We are strong advocates of a pilot programme to find first franchisees, which we will help you to build.
Can AI franchise my business for me?
AI can help with research, first drafts, checklists and ideation. It cannot decide whether your model is commercially viable, build a support structure that works in practice, judge franchisee fit, or coach founders through real recruitment conversations. We use modern tools where they add speed, but strategy, economics, positioning and recruitment still need experienced human judgement.
What if franchising is not the right route?
Then we will say so. Sometimes the right answer is to strengthen the core business first, or consider another growth route such as licensing, JV or organic expansion.
